Named after Captain John Palliser (a Waterford, Ireland explorer who was with the Hector Expedition in the 1850's) and designed by architect Lawrence Gotch, the Palliser was built for a mere 1.5 million dollars. Opened in 1914, the exterior of the Palliser features "Edwardian Commercial" architecture. Its unique E-shape ensures that all guestrooms have outside views and creates the appearance of three towers. Inside the hotel, a wide variety of decors flow together to create a luxurious and unique property - from the Tudor-style Rimrock room, the Louis XIV Crystal Ballroom, the Renaissance Revival lobby to the Art-Deco Penthouse, the Palliser is a sumptuous visual feast.
